What is Desert Salon? Desert Salon is an annual writing retreat in Joshua Tree, which has morphed into a collective for emerging California writers.
What is the retreat like? Attendees at the first retreat in 2018 developed everything from novels and short stories to screenplays and stand-up comedy routines. Our greatest connection lay in our dedication to the craft and our support of each other. Since then, we’ve had major successes—stories developed at the retreat or in workshop have gone on to be featured in major national magazines, literary magazines, anthologies, podcast episodes, and more.
Aside from lots of quiet writing time, the four-night retreat includes: Nightly readings, group meals, optional group hikes, an optional evening out in Pioneertown, and workshop sessions.
How can I attend? (NOTE: Any plans for future Desert Salon retreats are on hold due to COVID-19. We’ll update this page and our Instagram as things develop.)
In 2021, Desert Salon will expand the community by adding a second retreat, which will be open for public applications. Dates TBD. Applications will be available in January 2021. Stay tuned for more details.
